Flood Donations - Thank You!
Thank you for your generosity and support for our appeal for supporting those affected in the recent floods. Whether you have contributed to the financial appeal as well as the physical donations, we really appreciate you and know that these communities also will. We have received so many supplies for children to get back to school. We have found out that for some of these schools, they have been allocated to temporary accommodation while the mammoth effort to fix schools takes place. These donations will make their way north over the weekend. Mrs Hough and our lovely leaders worked to collect from classrooms and put them together. We also had support from other schools to put this together and we thank all in our wider community also for their generosity.
A Donation For Our Students -
Thank You Chemist Warehouse!
We have been given a lovely donation from Chemist Warehouse, a supply of individual sized sanitisers for all students in our school. Thanks to Mrs Rennes who was able to source these. We are sending home with each child one of these which can be used on their school bags or at home for when they need access to sanitiser to assist in preventing sickness now and during the winter months. We have enough for every student and some left over which we will arrange to go with the backpack donations to Lismore. Thanks to Mrs Hough and our Year 6 Leaders for delivering these to our classes.
Parent and Carers as Visitors and Volunteers
It is such wonderful news to be able to welcome parents and carers back onsite for occasions such as our Carnivals and prayer services. There are a couple of details that we need to ensure are done in preparation for these times.
If you are visiting to drop off children, coming to one of our events or attending a meeting, please remember you must digitally sign into the Who's On Location (WOL) school register. The QR digital codes for this system can be found around the school at entrances and in the office. This is mandatory for child protection and emergency management. As a visitor you are not required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
If you are coming as a volunteer, you are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and to share this with the School Office before your volunteering duties. You are also required to have a current Volunteers Working with Children Check (this is quick, simple and free via the below website and then a visit to Service NSW for the proof of ID check). If you need support with any of these steps, please speak with our Office Aunties.

We would like to congratulate Jake Kaandorp from 3B on becoming a big brother to Mason who was born on 9th March.
CELEBRATING OUR FAITH
St Joseph's Day
Today we celebrated and honoured our Patron Saint - St Joseph.
In our prayer service today lead by our wonderful Year 3 students, we reflected on Joseph's role and influence in the life of Jesus; how he nurtured, guided and encouraged God’s Son.
We also reflected on how St Joseph can guide us today. Since Joseph was a father to Jesus, his life is considered an example of what a father figure should look and be. Hence some cultures celebrate Father’s Day by honoring St Joseph and fathers together. In some countries St Joseph’s day is such an important day that in some countries it’s a public holiday!
The Catholic Church under Pope Pius IX declared Joseph to be the patron and protector of the Catholic Church.
Our sausages were delicious - thank you to our parent volunteers Rene and Mark Canty and Stephen Zerafa and all staff who were involved in today’s organisation.
A Child’s Prayer to St Joseph
St Joseph,
watch over me
and care for me
just as you cared for
the child Jesus;
and by your help,
may I come to know
your Son,
and so grow
in strength
and wisdom
and the favour of God.
Amen.
Learning Together
National Ride2School Day
Next Friday 25th March is National Ride2School Day. Ride2School is a nationwide program delivered by Bicycle Network, designed to support schools to encourage, empower and enable more students to get physically active on their journey to school. This program was created to enable students to get physically active on their journey to school. Over the past 40 years the number of children who are physically active everyday has significantly dropped. In the 1970s, eight out of ten students rode or walked to school but today that number has dropped to just two out of ten. The Bicycle Network believes something that could help change this is riding to school where possible. They suggest that students who ride or walk to school contribute to their minimum physical activity level of 60 minutes per day. They are also more focused and ready to learn compared to those who are driven. If you are thinking about riding to school please visit ‘The Bicycle Network’ website and read the ‘Ready to Ride' checklist.
Walking or Riding home from school
If your child is going to walk/ride home or meet you after school somewhere, apart from our homelines pickup area, we request a note from you that gives them permission to do so. In our duty of care, we will not be able to allow students to leave the school grounds by foot or bike if we don’t have your approval.
On arrival at school, students are to walk their bikes to the bike rack at the designated area. Students walking or riding from school in the afternoon are required to wheel their bikes to the gate, where they will be dismissed from the school grounds by the appointed teacher at 3:10pm.
- For safety reasons, all students must walk their bikes into and out of the school grounds.
- Students are to wear their helmets at all times when riding their bikes.

Harmony Week is held from 21st - 28th March. Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Next Monday, 21st March, we will celebrate Harmony Day at St Joseph’s by wearing a ‘splash’ of orange. We invite students to wear their regular school uniform and choose to wear something orange (such as a ribbon, wristband, orange socks, a badge).
Year 6 have been exploring different ways to make their literacy block more authentic and engaging. This week our students have been listening to informative podcasts to develop our vocabulary and to gain insight to phenomena around the world. This week’s topic was the Loch Ness Monster!
K - 2 Dance Diaries
Dancing in Context
Dance contexts provide opportunities to draw on material from a variety of sources to learn about dance. At St Joseph’s we draw on diverse contexts to provide a broad and balanced dance experience appropriate to the interests, resources and expertise of the school and community.
Consideration is given to providing students with opportunities to experience dance ideas from culturally diverse sources, times and places, including contemporary, personal, community, Australian and global identities. All students will experience Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance in some form during Kinder to Year 6. Dance is integral to the expression of Aboriginal cultural identity.
The range of dance activity in Australia provides a rich source for performing, composing and appreciating dance in the Kinder to Year 6 classroom. By experiencing dance from a range of contexts, students will develop their understanding of the many ways in which dances can be made, performed and responded to.

Diocesan Winter Sports Trials
Trials for Netball and Hockey went ahead today in Grafton. Well done to all who attended and tried their hardest today. We look forward to hearing all about their experience when they return to school next week.
Postponed - Football (soccer). Due to closed fields, the Diocesan Soccer trials will now be held next Wednesday 23rd March at the Hockey Complex, Oliver Street in Grafton. Please note there is no canteen. BYO lunch recommended. IMPORTANT- Students are to wear flat jogger/sporting shoes only on the hockey fields, not synthetic moulded or spiked soccer boots. Students who attend Diocesan Winter Sports Trials for Soccer will be allowed to run the Cross Country in the coming days here at school for an official time in order to compete for a spot at Zone Cross Country.
If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you again for your flexibility in these unforeseen circumstances.
Cross Country
Our annual school Cross Country Carnival which was scheduled for Wednesday 16th March (Week 7, Term 1) has been postponed due to the weather. The carnival will now be held next Wednesday 23rd March (Week 8, Term 1) in and around the school grounds. This carnival is for all students in Kindergarten to Year 6.
Shared Lunch: We are pleased that we can also welcome parents and carers to join their children for lunch on the day (weather dependent due to limited covered spaces). Students will be able to sit with their parents/carers out on our playground grass areas or on the undercover areas of the MPA and back of the Library, picnic style (BYO seating). It is important for supervision and safety that students are in these areas. You are invited to bring food to share with your child/ren if this suits you, or they can use their own food packed for the day. The canteen is unable to cater for all who visit, so will only be able to cater for pre-ordered student lunches. We ask parents and carers not to order in flexischools or in person at the canteen for any family members who are not students in our classes.
Please refer to the below timetable for times when students will be competing. Please note these times are an approximate guide only as they are dependent on how fast each race occurs and the smooth change over to the next age group.

Sports Coordinator
