Kindergarten 2023 Transition to School
It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers visit on Wednesday evening to find out more about coming to school in 2023. We have packs ready for anyone who was not able to come on the night, just drop in to the office and collect yours. Our leaders and Kindergarten team look forward to seeing the children and their families in the coming weeks as we welcome you to our school community.
Family Pets
While we all love our family pets who are an integral part of our lives, they are not to come into the school grounds during drop off or pick up times in the morning and afternoon, whether tethered or not. Please find an alternative for them that doesn’t involve coming through the school drop off or pickup zone.
Celebrating Our Faith
Launching our new School Website and School Values
As you may have read last week, you are invited to a very special community evening where we will be launching our new school website and new school values.
Over the past two years, our school community has been learning about the history of our school, specifically the Sisters of St Joseph’s, and how the qualities of St Joseph and Mary MacKillop are represented in the way we live our lives each day in our Catholic school. We have sought voice from our students, parents and staff to help shape our new school values.
At St Joseph's we aspire to be like St Joseph.
With integrity we live out the values of Courage, Humility and Compassion.
In the coming weeks we will be exploring these three values in greater detail and we would like you to join us by participating in our family art competition. How does your family show these values of St Joseph? As a family, show us in artistic form on an A4 sheet of paper the values of Courage, Humility and Compassion. All entries need to be submitted to the Front Office by next Friday 28th October. One piece from each class will be chosen to be recreated professionally to form an artwork which will be displayed in our Front Office. The winning designs will be revealed on the night.
Please see the note emailed home today for more details.
Exuro
This week, ten of our Year 5 students nominated to be part of Exuro. Exuro (Latin for “on fire”) is a Catholic student discipleship formation program that deepens the faith of students and keeps the fire and passion for mission alive within our Catholic Primary school.

ICAS Assessments
Some of our Primary students recently participated in the UNSW Global ICAS Assessments. ICAS Assessments are designed to recognise academic excellence with students assessed on their ability to apply classroom learning to new contexts using higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills. Congratulations to all students who participated in these assessments. We would like to acknowledge the following students for their results:-

Bus Safety
Many of our students travel on a bus to and from school. Over the next few weeks we will share some simple safety tips to ensure your child is safe on the bus.

We have commenced our Peer Support lessons this week. The whole school is participating in Peer Support for 30 minutes each week with two Year 6 Peer leaders facilitating a small group of eight to ten younger students, to work together through a number of structured activities. Each teacher will supervise two groups in their classroom.
This year, we are working on a module called "Keeping Friends", helping us explore the concept of friendship, building relationships and developing skills in empathy and critical thinking. The module runs for eight sessions.
Today, our first session enabled the children to get to know everyone in their group, agreeing on how they will work together and interact cooperatively with others. They also began to think about the meaning of friendship.
We encourage you to talk to your children about Peer Support every week as it will help to reinforce the concepts learned in each session.

On Tuesday, ten Year 5 students joined peers from our surrounding schools, in an EXURO retreat day at the Port Macquarie Youth Hub. Exuro is a Proclaim Lismore Program which runs with the theme: Set the World on Fire.
Students explored ways in which they can nurture their passion, imagination and commitment to love as a Christian disciple.
A big thank you to the Youth Ministry class from St Joseph’s Regional College and Rachael from the Catholic Schools Office for supporting the students throughout the day. It was a fantastic experience to join with other schools in our community.
“Today we learnt that no matter our age we can still make a difference.” - Lucas L
“My favourite part was learning about how disciples can use their hands, feet and different parts of their body to show love.” - Violet
“It was a fun day getting to learn lots about our peers from other schools. My favourite part was breaking into small groups and learning about the people in my group”. - Xavier
“Today was amazing. We got to learn about what a disciple is, the challenges we face as Christians and I was in the prayer service group. My favourite thing was getting into small groups and doing ice breaker challenges.” - Mayriah
