PARISH MASTER PLAN
As you will know, our Parish of St Agnes’ is a large organisation which has services supporting the people of Port Macquarie and surrounds from early childhood, primary and secondary education, vocational and higher training, youth ministry, aged care and community outreach. The benefit for our schools is that there is a high level of collaboration across education to ensure students receive quality learning and environments.
St Agnes’ Parish has started the process of developing a “Master Plan” for all of its education facilities. This is an innovative and extensive project that will consider what we are currently doing in our schools, where we would like to move towards in our practices and what facilities will be needed to reach these goals.
Each of the schools in our Parish, as well as Wauchope, Laurieton and Kempsey are involved in this project, as a collaborative group. To begin the process, each school has selected a design team, composed of students, parents and staff. This team will work with our community in building a “Project Nest” to capture the ideas and wonderings of everyone willing to take part. The Project Nest will be an actual space within our school that is accessible to all and enables everyone to place their ideas in a central location. Once our design team are given some guidelines around how to best encourage and seek the community’s ideas, we will share with you how you can be part of this initiative. The actual Project Nest work will take place over 3-4 weeks, so we would really like you to visit and contribute a little or a lot. More details will be communicated shortly.
We are working with two companies in this project, who will take all of our contributions and formulate them into a summary which will be combined with all of our education settings to form the overall Master Plan for the Parish. This is a very exciting and unique opportunity for all of us to build our future.
KUYPER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL CONCERT BAND VISIT
On Friday 20th September, we are fortunate to have a visit from the Kuyper Christian School Concert Band from Kurrajong NSW. The school approached us recently as they are touring, offering a performance for our band students. As it is a free performance, all students are invited to participate in the audience, and being the day after the Glasshouse performances, would be a lovely way to end the week. The performance time will be 11:40am and will run for 50-60 minutes.
The band is a Concert Band set-up, with 34 students and 6 adults in the band. The students are from Years 5-8. They will be playing a highly entertaining, interactive show for students to enjoy and would love to meet any of our musicians after the show. This will be their last performance on the tour and they are really looking forward to being with us.
GLASSHOUSE PERFORMANCE
Our performance is almost here!!! We had a very successful whole school practice last week, showing that we are going to be putting on a high quality and exciting showcase for our families and friends next week. Please make sure that all items that are coming in from home are at school ready for our full dress rehearsal on Wednesday at The Glasshouse. Then we will be geared up ready for the Matinee performance on Thursday and the night time performance on Thursday evening.
A note will be emailed home shortly with important final organisation information including time and place to sign children in and out on Thursday evening.
If you have tickets that you no longer require please contact The Glasshouse Box Office as there may be people that would like to attend that haven't been able to secure a ticket. The Glasshouse will give you a refund and then on sell the tickets to those on their waiting list. If you are looking to purchase a ticket please contact The Glasshouse Box Office on 6581 8888. LISMORE MEDITATES
It was exciting to join with so many other schools across the Diocese and participate in a joint Christian Meditation session. This was planned for RU OK day, to help remind our students that God is part of their life at every moment - all through the good times and tough times. Our community will support each other through these times of difficulty.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT, HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PDHPE)
In 2020 our staff and students will be engaged in a new syllabus. The curriculum document has been redesigned to consider the changes of students today and the ever changing nature of the world within which they are living.
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) develops the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes important for students to take positive action to protect and enhance their own and others’ health, safety and wellbeing in varied and changing contexts. Physical education is fundamental to the acquisition of movement skills and concepts to enable students to participate in a range of physical activities – confidently, competently and creatively.
Through PDHPE, students develop self-management, interpersonal and movement skills to help them become empowered, self-confident and socially responsible citizens. Students learn in movement, about movement and through movement and are given opportunities to apply and adapt their skills across multiple contexts. The learning experiences in PDHPE provide students with a foundation to actively contribute to, and advocate for, the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others in the community and beyond school.. (PDHPE Syllabus)
A few of our staff had the opportunity this week to explore this new and exciting syllabus and are looking forward to implementing this in 2020. Our big take away from our professional learning was that this new curriculum will enable students to develop the knowledge, understanding, skills, values and attitudes required to lead and promote healthy, safe and active lives.

Kindergarten and Year 1 Science
In Science and Technology this term, Kindergarten have been learning about daily and seasonal changes in the environment and how they affect humans and other living things. Kindergarten were asked to use their knowledge of these changes to design a booth to protect someone from the effects of the weather.
In Science and Technology this term, Year 1 have been learning about common forms of energy, focusing on sound energy. Year 1 were asked to use their knowledge of sound energy to design an instrument out of recycled material.
On Tuesday, 12 preschoolers from Joey’s House joined the Kindergarten and Year 1 students to celebrate their learning. The preschoolers were able to test the booths created by the Kindergarten students and listened to a selection of songs performed by Year 1 on their recycled instruments.
Together they shared a story, “The Rainbow Fish”, and joined in a "Just Dance". This was a wonderful learning experience for our students and we are so proud of their learning this term. Well done Kindergarten and Year 1.
