Sports Leaders 2023
A group of our Year 5 students recently prepared for speaking with their sports houses to nominate themselves for House Captains. Once again, we were proud of all students who spoke so passionately to their peers. We are pleased to announce the following leaders for 2023:
Hastings | Oxley | Macquarie | Mitchell |
Xavier Mat | Harry Hoade | Jesse Johnstone | Drew Evans |
McKenzie Newton | Ariannah Beard | Charli Hoitink | Laila Thorburn |
Congratulations
Congratulations to the Sachan family who attended their Australian Citizenship ceremony this past week. An exciting time for your family. Year 1 has enjoyed celebrating this with Duaansh.
Aladdin Jr Performance
We would like to congratulate our students who participated in the Aladdin Jr performances across the past week. With nine shows and many audience members attending, we know that they worked hard to be ready for many weeks. Some were in the cast and others in the choir. We are very proud of them for sharing their talents. We would also like to thank Lisa Gilchrist on our staff for her commitment to supporting our students.

End of Year Assembly
In Peer Support this week children focused on the skills of winning in a friendly way and coping with losing. We know how competitive we can be and this week’s activities allowed students to participate in various activities and discuss how to accept the outcome of a game, no matter the result. We investigated how to do this, in a friendly way in order to maintain our friendships.
During the week encourage your child to practise these skills in all aspects of life - whether it be weekend sport or choosing what to watch.
Summer Sports Trials - Basketball and Touch Football
Last Friday the following selected students travelled to Lismore to trial for the Diocesan Touch Football and Basketball teams - Hudson Alexander, Harrison Hoade, Liam Jones, Xavier Mat, McKenzie Newton, Laila Thorburn, Ruby Holmes, Lailah Watson, and Zada Robinson.
All of our students played hard and represented St Joseph’s Primary with great sportsmanship. We wish to congratulate Xavier Mat, Liam Jones, and Hudson Alexander for progressing through to Polding trials to be held during Term 1 2023.
Rugby League
On Friday 25th November at Tuffins Lane Playing Fields students from Year 3 and Year 4 competed in the 2022 Primary Schools NRL 9’s Challenge for the Hastings region. Our students finished second overall in what was a very successful day. Congratulations!
Soccer Gala Day
On Tuesday students from Year 4 and Year 5 participated in the Newcastle Permanent Soccer Gala Day held at Wayne Richards Reserve. The day involved 5 player small scale games aimed at increasing skills and participation. The students all had a wonderful time and one of our champions may have even made the local news!
Yours in Sport
David Lynch
The installation of our ‘In a world where you can ….. BE KIND’ mural has now been completed.
A big thanks to all the staff, students and artist, past student Jimmie Carney who made this mural possible.
Next time you visit the school and walk toward the MPA - just look to the left and you will see this wonderful piece of meaningful art created by the whole school.
Kelly Russell
School Counsellor
Year 3 students have been busy researching for their own inquiry project. After some learning earlier in the term about ‘Space’, students in Year 3 identified their own questions or specific areas to find out more about. Students have been engaged in working independently and sharing new found information and research skills each day.
Keep up the great work Year 3!
