Primary Swimming Carnival
Our Primary Swimming Carnival will take place on Tuesday 14th February 2023 (Week 3 Term 1) at the Wauchope Memorial Olympic Pool for students in Year 3 to 6.
Students in Year 2, who turn 8 this year (ie. by 31/12/2023) and can competently swim 50m may also attend.
Parents are required to complete the online permission form for your child to travel by bus to and from the pool and swim on the day. This form can be found in the note sent home by email this week. We ask in the online form that you advise us if your child will be at school but not swimming – these students will still travel to the pool with their class and are still required to pay the full amount. No refunds are possible.
Please note that if we do not receive your permission by the nominated date your child will be unable to attend the carnival and will stay at school with a supervising staff member.

Busways has forwarded the initial batch of bus passes (students continuing from last year together with new approvals received from Transport for NSW) directly to the student’s home address.
Any students who are eligible for school free travel and do not have a pass should complete an Application Form online at http://transport.nsw.gov.au/
If you are applying for a bus pass, ensure you type our school exactly as ST JOSEPH'S PRIMARY SCHOOL (PORT MACQUARIE) otherwise our school will not show in the dropdown menu.
Information on school runs can be obtained by visiting Busways website www.busways.com.au.
Medications
Please be mindful of informing the school of any diagnosis or change in medical condition for your child so that school plans and records are current and accurate. This is especially important for those students with Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Diabetes, and other medical illnesses. As per our updated Medication Policy, we require students who receive daily medications to provide all medications to the school in webster packs. Plunketts Pharmacy are known to put school webster packs together free of charge.
Contact Details
Please also let the school know if any contact details including phone numbers, email addresses, home address and emergency contacts have changed for your child.
Appointments and Early Departures
We strongly encourage parents to organise appointments outside of school hours (Start 8:55am and Finish 3:10pm) but are conscious that this is not always possible. For your convenience if you have to make a medical appointment for your child during school time please be aware of our breaks for your planning as there will be a delay in getting your child to the office if they are out at lunch play:
Lunch 1 is from 11:00am - 11:40am
Lunch 2 is from 1:40pm - 2:10pm
Home Time Messages
If there is a change to your child's home time travel arrangements please let your child know before they leave the house or write a note to your child's teacher. Some parents also write a "H" (home lines) or a "B" (bus lines) on their child's hand. We understand that plans may change during the day and ask that you phone the Office Aunties on 6583 3848 between the hours of 8:30am and 2:30pm. This enables us to ensure that your child gets the message in a timely manner. Please do not email the school or message your child's teacher directly as it may not be seen in the timeframe you require. If an emergency occurs or there is a late change to your child's home time plan we will do everything we can to get the message to your child after 2:30pm. Please be aware that a warning school bell sounds at 3:00pm for classes to prepare to leave the class for home time at 3:10pm which makes it difficult to guarantee that a message will get to your child.

We’re kicking off the school year with Safer Internet Day on 7th February 2023 as part of our whole school approach to online safety.
Safer Internet Day is a global event that brings together communities, families, schools and organisations from more than 180 countries to help create safer online spaces. This important campaign is celebrating its 20 year anniversary in 2023, so it's a good time to reflect on the past two decades, as well as look towards the future. The world is more connected than ever before, making online safety awareness even more important. That’s why the 2023 campaign is encouraging everyone to Connect, Reflect, Protect:
- Connect safely and with purpose – by keeping apps and devices secure and using social media in positive ways.
- Reflect before we act – by taking a moment to consider how what we do and say online may affect others.
- Protect ourselves by taking action – by telling family, friends or colleagues about eSafety and how we can help.
