GLASSHOUSE PERFORMANCE
The wait was well and truly worth it! Wow, what a day and night we had yesterday for showcasing our clever students and staff. We thank all of you for supporting the preparation with costumes and props as well as making sure that we had a great audience. Big thanks go to all of our staff who prepared, sewed, bought and sourced items to make the groups shine in the spotlight as well as spending time putting together the ideas and practicing for each item. It has to be said, that a great team is the reason for the success. Leading this team was Mrs Leah Toole, whose passion and drive got it all started and to completion so successfully. Many hours of work behind the scenes and communication with the Glasshouse meant that the practice and performances this week were wonderful. Mrs Jeannine Ucdereli and Aunty Heather were part of the core team who worked with the Glasshouse to ensure all was ready and organised. Miss Elisa was with us all term, ensuring that her creativity and talent spread through to the Eisteddfod dance groups who will also compete next week. No doubt, there are lots of weary students and staff today, but what great memories to keep. We look forward to seeing it all again with the DVD recording. If you wish to purchase a copy of the DVD please send $20.00 in to the school office in an envelope clearly marked with your child's name, quantity and 'Glasshouse DVD' on it by Friday 27th September.
KUYPER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL CONCERT BAND VISIT
Today we welcomed the Kuyper Christian School Concert Band from Kurrajong NSW. All students were invited to participate in the audience with this free concert, and being the day after the Glasshouse performances, it was a lovely way to end the week. The performance ran for approximatley 60 minutes and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
PARISH MASTER PLAN
Our school design team is close to being finalised for this project, with parent, staff and student reps working together next Monday to find out more about how we can engage with our whole school community to get our Project Nest off the ground. Once our design team are given some guidelines around how to best encourage and seek the community’s ideas, we will share with you how you can be part of this initiative. The actual Project Nest work will take place over 3-4 weeks, so we would really like you to visit and contribute a little or a lot. More details will be communicated in time.
We will also have a visit from Paynters soon, which is the company partnering with the Parish for assessing our physical site for future planning. This is a very exciting and unique opportunity for all of us to build our future.
CHANGE TO SUMMER UNIFORM
Students are required to wear the full summer uniform from Week 1 of Term 4. Please ensure that the items your child/ren are wearing are correct, paying particular attention to shoes and accessories. We will send reminder notes home next term for any items that need adjusting and ask for your support to follow these up. I have included the link to our uniform requirements.
THINKING OF OUR COMMUNITY
We offer our thoughts and prayers to Bronte, Taz Gawith (3 Green and 1 Green) and family on the recent loss of their grandfather.
Congratulations to Aislinn Suveesh (2 Gold) and Aryan Vishanth (2 Green) who became Australian citizens on Tuesday. Both Aislinn and Aryan took the pledge under God to become full and formal members of the Australian community. Mayor Peta Pinson presided the citizenship ceremony which took place at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.

SPHERO’s 101
Current research tells us that STEM education is vital for contemporary Australia. It underpins our economic and social growth and will provide some of the most exciting employment opportunities for the children in our schools. Students have been continually engaged in digital technologies and STEM opportunities in their learning. For this to happen authentically teachers also need to learn how to embed the learning opportunities into their programs. This week some staff attended an afternoon session with Mrs Sarah Blundell to learn how to use our latest technology - Sphero’s. We explored simple coding, drawing a square and navigating a set course.
What is a Sphero?
Spheros are a spherical robot toy. They are a white orb wrapped in polycarbonate plastic, capable of rolling around, changing colors, running programs, and being controlled by a smartphone or tablet. Spheros:-
Roll - Sphero robots can roll at a given speed and heading for a given amount of time.
Colour - Sphero robots can light up in any colour.
Sensors - Sphero robot's internal sensors include an IMU and Locator.
Bluetooth - Sphero robots connect to devices such as iPads through Bluetooth.
Robot Languages - Sphero robots support three 'onboard' programming languages. Programs written in these languages are 'run' on the robot.
While we did not walk out as experts we did have plenty of fun mapping, coding, drawing and navigating our way around the Makerspace track. We look forward to sharing our new Spheros with our students in Term 4.
Thank you to Mrs Blundell for giving up her time to help us learn more.
On Monday all our Indigenous students had the wonderful opportunity of participating in the filming of a Welcome to Country. This very special event involved Elders from each of the five Nations in our Region. Shelly Beach is a place of significance to the Birpai People and so we were privileged to spend the day with students from each of our schools dancing and playing. Thanks to everyone involved in making the day possible and we can’t wait to see what the film will look like!
TERM 4 PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORT
Term 4 will see our students experience outside coaches in both futsal for Year 2-6 and netball for K-6.
Intensive swimming at Port Macquarie Pool for Kinder, Year 1 and 2 will be in Week 7 and 8 of Term 4, finishing with a small carnival in the final Friday lesson on 6th December. The note for intensive swimming will be sent out shortly requesting permission and payment if you would like your child to participate. Please note the intensive swimming program is optional however if you nominate your child for the swimming program the committment is for the whole two weeks and you will therefore be required to pay the full amount even if your child is away or sick during the program.
The Primary swimming carnival will be held in Week 9 on Thursday 12th December.
We look forward to a wonderful Term 4 of sport and physical education.
Yours in Sport
