Welcome Back
Warm greetings and a heartfelt welcome to Term 3 at St Joseph’s Primary School on the week of our 110th birthday celebrations! We hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirits as we embark on another exciting chapter of learning and growth together. We are excited to welcome both familiar faces and new additions to our school community. To our new students and their families, a special welcome awaits you. We are thrilled to have you join our close-knit family, and we look forward to getting to know you better.
This term promises to be filled with enriching experiences, vibrant classroom activities, and a range of opportunities for students to explore their passions, expand their knowledge, and cultivate essential life skills.
Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews
We encourage our parents and families to remain actively involved in their child's education. We believe that a strong partnership between home and school lays the foundation for success. Parent interviews will take place in Week 3 and 4 this term. You can make your bookings via the new Compass platform. Please refer to information previously sent regarding the scheduling and timing of these important opportunities.
NAPLAN Release
In the coming weeks Year 3 and Year 5 students will receive their individual NAPLAN reports. ACARA has released the below NAPLAN individual student report video which provides parents and carers with clear information on their child’s achievement.
The upcoming parent interviews is also a good time to discuss any queries that you have about the results, remembering that NAPLAN is a point in time assessment.
Parent Body
Last term the P&F Association model was discussed at parent meetings and information shared with our community about dissolving the current P&F and moving to a Parent Community Group (PCG) - informal model. This model will involve no elected executive roles and no financial accountabilities. The model still requires a chairperson and a note taker to share information with the community and communicate for transparency after each meeting.
We wish to thank the outgoing P&F team, Laura Bell, Mel Robinson and Bec Newton for the amazing role they have played in uniting our community and fundraising for our new Primary playground.
At the meeting last term we also discussed the results from the Tell Them From Me survey. A snapshot of the results are below:
New Parent Community Group (PCG)
A huge thank you to the very committed and growing group of parents who attended the meeting this week and formally voted in the Parent Community Group (PCG) model. Please see the attached minutes and information regarding the structure and formalities of this new model.
Importantly, the parent group in attendance has pulled together a small group of volunteers to lead the preparation for our Father’s Day and Colour Run celebrations. If you would like to assist with this preparation and can spare 45 minutes, we are meeting this coming Wednesday 26th July at 5:00 pm in the school library and all are welcome.
Some Special Dates For Your Diary
Welcome to the Family
Social Media: Are They Old Enough?
While the internet offers incredible opportunities for children to access information and connect with others, it's important for parents to teach them how to navigate online environments safely. Without proper supervision and understanding of concepts like privacy, children may face negative experiences that can impact their wellbeing.
Wait Till 13
One common question that arises is when your child should have a social media account.
Most social media platforms, including Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and Facebook, require users to be at least 13 years old to register. Following these guidelines, we recommend that no primary-aged child should have their own social media account. As a school community, we kindly request that you protect your child by allowing them to access social media only under your account and supervision.
After they are 13, take into account your child’s:
- Maturity
- Resilience
- Understanding of the impacts of social media
Saying No
Safeguarding your child's confidence and self-worth during their primary school years is crucial, and social media can have negative consequences on your child’s developing identity. We encourage you not to let the online environment distort this important phase of their development. Stay strong and resist the pressure to introduce your child to social media when they are too young.
Together, let's empower our children to explore the digital world safely while preserving their wellbeing and fostering a positive sense of self.

Awareness of Scams for Schools Industry
The Commonwealth Bank has shared details of a current scam that they are seeing with customers in the school/education industry.
Families are being contacted by a caller stating that they are from the school and offering large discounts on school fees if an immediate payment is made and credit card details provided.
This is a timely reminder to be vigilant with your personal information.
If you receive a phone call from someone pretending to be from the school or Education Team at the Catholic Schools Office and you are not satisfied with their legitimacy, please end the conversation and make contact with our offices directly.
Our staff will always respect your decision to protect your information.

Please contact the school Office staff if you need this information prior to 1st August or if you have any questions relating to the payment of fees.
The St Agnes’ Foundation is a benevolent charity of the Parish that assists in supporting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community. The charitable purpose includes relieving poverty and distress, caring for and supporting children, young individuals, the elderly and those with disabilities. This has been made possible through kind and generous donations to the Foundation. This year they are running a fantastic raffle (see flyer below). All funds raised will go directly to the St Agnes’ Foundation.
