That's a Wrap for Week 5
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thank you for your understanding and support this week throughout our lockout. These events often cause significant stress for families and schools alike. Student and community safety are obviously paramount in these moments and by working together we are able to maintain the highest possible levels of security.
Class Placements 2024
It's that time of year when we are in the process of finalising student placements for the upcoming year. Placing students into classes is a complex task, and our dedicated teachers invest a substantial amount of time in creating class lists to ensure the best possible fit for all students. If you have any information regarding your child's placement that you would like us to take into consideration, please don't hesitate to contact the school via email to sjpport@lism.catholic.edu.au. Any changes cannot be made after Friday 24th November as students will meet their new teacher on Tuesday 12th December. Your cooperation and input are greatly appreciated.
If your family is not returning to St Joseph’s Primary in 2024 please advise the School Office via email (sjpport@lism.catholic.edu.au) as soon as possible.
Parent Community Group (PCG)
Our PCG at Joey's is open to all parents. It supports the mission of our Catholic school, strengthens family school partnerships and parent connections. It is welcoming and inclusive and provides good communication to the whole parent community about the parent body initiatives. We aim to build a strong, connected community to make our school the most inclusive place for our students and parent body. Sometimes we will fundraise but mostly our aim is to build a well-connected and committed group of parents to enhance the already wonderful community here at Joey's.
We want you to join us!
Come along next week to our last PCG meeting of the Year on Wednesday 15th November 5:00pm-6:00pm
A copy of our last meetings Agenda and Meeting Notes can be viewed in the link below.

Parent Learning Opportunity
If your child will be catching the bus to the Orientation day from their home please ensure that they know the Bus number.
We look forward to seeing you on the Orientation day!!!!!
Thank you for keeping all of our children and community safe by following the road rules. There has recently been an increase in the fines for parking offences in school zones. Please see the flyer below for the updated details.
For the safety of all outside our school, thank you for using the drop off zone as “drop off” only. When using the drop off zone -
- please do not park and leave your car there as it blocks the flow of our drop off zone.
- please ensure you use the cul-de-sac at the end of Wartlers Street to turn your car around and not make a u-turn at either Drew Close or Aston Street.
Attendance
A friendly reminder to please communicate all absences via the school office.
If you have emailed your teacher through the Compass App letting them know your child will be absent from school for any period of time, please assist by replying to the 'absent sms' you receive from school or by phoning the office or sending an email to sjpport@lism.catholic.edu.au so that the office staff can update your child's attendance records.
Early Departure
Families are reminded of our early school departure sign out processes. A student cannot be signed out early by anyone other than their parent/s unless the office or classroom teacher has received permission by the parent for the alternate adult to collect their child on that particular day.
If the alternate adult is listed as an Emergency Contact they are able to collect your child from homelines, however they are unable to sign them out for early departure without parental permission on that particular day.
Social Media: Are They Old Enough?
The Benefits of Parental Controls
While no parental control tool is perfect, it's equally important to teach your child good online safety habits. The internet-connected devices in your home offer numerous benefits, but it's crucial to understand the associated risks and protect your family.
eSafety provides a helpful guide for parents to understand parental controls and their role in keeping children safe online. They offer a short video introducing various parental control options and recommend settings that suit your family's needs.
Streaming services
Streaming services like Netflix, Disney, Stan, and Amazon Prime offer parental controls to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content. YouTube Kids provides family-friendly content with features to set time limits on apps and disable search functionality. Among catch-up TV platforms, ABC iView stands out by offering parental filters and controls, along with a dedicated platform for younger viewers called ABC KIDS iView.
Apple Devices
For Apple devices like iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches, you can utilise Apple's parental controls. With Content & Privacy Restrictions in Screen Time, you can block or limit specific apps and features on your child's device. You can also restrict explicit content, purchases, downloads, and privacy settings.
Android Tablets and Smartphones
For Android tablets and smartphones, you can set up parental controls through Google Play to restrict the content your child can download or purchase.
Finding the right balance with parental controls is key. It starts with open conversations and setting clear expectations about monitoring online activities and modelling healthy behaviour. It's about protecting your child while allowing them the freedom to explore and learn online. Gradually introducing age-appropriate freedoms is important. Collaborating with other parents and teaching your child essential online safety skills together can be beneficial. Ultimately, being a responsible and caring parent means prioritising your child's online wellbeing.

2024 Kindergarten
What a great week we had when our 2024 Kindergarten friends visited us for the first time. We loved seeing everyone again this week in their special Joey's T-shirts.
This term in Mathematics we have been learning about decimals and how they can be used in everyday life. In this lesson, Year 4 needed to create their best paper plane in under five minutes. Students then worked in small groups to throw their planes and measure the distance travelled to two decimal places. Finally, groups worked together to order their distances from shortest to longest. The windy moring added an extra level of challenge to our task!
