New Staff 2025
On Friday next week, students will meet with their teachers and grade peers for 2025. Everyone is looking forward to a wonderful start to their new year.
We are thrilled to welcome Mrs Melissa Abbott, Ms Nicole Weaver, Mrs Alana Bensch, Mr James Schumann and Mrs Lisa James to our school community! As passionate and dedicated educators, these teachers brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to their respective roles. With a strong commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, they are excited to get to know each of their students and building strong relationships with staff, and families as we embark on another successful school year together.
Further exciting news… Ms Weaver also has another friend joining her here at Joey’s, Bertie the therapy dog will also join our team. Welcome Bertie!
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to our new staff and wishing them a wonderful year ahead.
Farewell and See You Soon
As we conclude 2024, we bid a fond farewell to Ms Saej Goodall and say "See you soon" to Mrs Laura Stapleton, Mrs Sarah McKinnon and Aunty Kim.
- Ms Saej Goodall will be relocating to Sydney with her husband to further their careers.
- Mrs Laura Stapleton will be on secondment to St Agnes' Primary School for 2025.
- Mrs Sarah McKinnon will be taking maternity leave until Term 3 2025, returning in Term 4.
- Aunty Kim will be travelling next year and will rejoin The Office Aunties in 2026.
We wish them all the best in their new adventures and look forward to seeing them again soon!
SRC and Sport Leaders 2025
It is always a special time when our Year 5 students learn about and prepare for leadership opportunities. We were so impressed and proud of their efforts as a group in this process and would like to congratulate next year’s Student Representative Council and Sport Captains.
Christmas Hamper Appeal
Each year the major act of service to the communtiy that our students and families make to our Parish is through the Christmas Hamper Appeal. Through your generosity and hard work of our Mini Vinnies team we have been able to supply hampers to those in need in our parish.
Thank you for your generous donations!
Christmas Disco
Through feedback from our Tell them From Me surveys we found that the students wanted more events like school discos. With a bit of Christmas cheer and generous time from our teachers and Parent Community Group (PCG), we threw our Primary and Infants a wonderful disco evening.
Welcome to the Joey's Family!
Building Community - Wednesdays Done Right!
The opening of Joey's Cafe has been a huge sucess!
Everyone is welcome to join us for our Community Coffee Mornings each Wednesday at Joey's Café! Enjoy a delicious $3.00 coffee from 8:00 am - 8:45 am, and support a great cause—all proceeds go towards our Students' Breakfast Club.
Come on in through the front gate and make your Wednesday mornings a little brighter by building community, while giving back to our students!
See you there!
Wildfire Songwriting Day
Prior to the end of the school year, all medications held at school need to be sent home. During the course of the last week of school, we will be sending your child’s medication home with them. Please check your child's school bag for this over the course of the week. Anaphylaxis, asthma and regular daily medications will not be sent home until Wednesday 18th December (last day of classes).
Alternatively, if you would prefer your child not to take their medication home with them in their school bag and you would like to collect the medication yourself, please let us know by contacting the school office on 02 6583 3848 and we will hold the medication for you. Please note that any medications not collected by the afternoon of Wednesday 18th December will be discarded.
If your child will be needing medication to be held in sickbay in 2025, an updated Medication Authorisation Form will be required to be completed upon the start of the new school year. If it is asthma medication that has been held for your child, an updated Child Asthma Record form will need to be completed.
Both forms are available from the School Office.
Attending School Regularly Helps Children
If your child is avoiding school, contact your child’s teacher so together you can explore what is happening for your child
If your child is avoiding school, it's crucial to proactively address the issue by contacting your child's teacher. Teachers play a key role in observing and understanding students' behaviours and can collaborate with you to identify and address any challenges your child may be facing.
Share your observations about your child's behaviour and express any concerns you may have. Be open and honest about the challenges your child is facing in attending school regularly.
Collaboratively work with the school and your child to explore possible causes for your child's avoidance of school. This could include academic challenges or social issues. Work together to develop and monitor strategies to address the identified issues.
You can seek advice free from NSW ParentLine 1300 1300 52.

Getting to School by Bus in 2025
Will your child be catching the bus to school next year? Applications are now open for a Bus Travel Pass. As it’s a busy time of year, we highly recommend you make this application before the end of the year. It’s also good to check the bus timetable to make your child’s journey to school as easy as possible. Here is how it works:
Bus passes
- All students catching the bus in 2025 will need a school travel pass.
- Under the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS), eligible students can apply for free or subsided travel between home and school.
- For more information about the School Student Transport Scheme and how to apply for a school travel pass, visit https://apps.transport.nsw.
gov.au/ssts/#/ from a desktop computer. - Find the correct school by using exactly as written here: ST JOSEPH'S PRIMARY SCHOOL (PORT MACQUARIE)
- Go to busways.com.au/nsw
- Click on ‘school services’ in the navigation bar and then proceed to ‘school timetables’
- Enter the school’s name in the field that says ‘enter a school name’
- Select the school’s name and the timetable should open on your device. If you are unable to find or search for the school’s name, use the drop-down menus on the same web page to find the school.
- Once the timetable is opened, you will be able to identify which school bus services are available in your area for your child to use.
Year 2, together with our friends from Rockpool, travelled back in time to visit historical Timbertown. The children enjoyed exploring artefacts from the past and experienced travelling on different forms of transport including a horse and carriage and a steam train. It was wonderful to have so many parents join us on the day. We all had a blast!
