SCHOOL LEADERS 2020
On Wednesday afternoon, each Sports House Team had the great pleasure of hearing from the nominated candidates from Year 5 for the positions of Year 6 Sports House Leaders for 2020. At St Joseph’s, we have a boy and girl leader for each Sports House for the year and experience the great pleasure of getting to know these students well and see them grow in their leadership. It was a delight to listen to and see the presentations this year, with much thought and effort placed into the task. All nominees should be proud of themselves even if they were not successful in being voted for the positions. We congratulate all candidates who showed courage to stand up in front of their House groups to deliver their speeches and know that we have wonderful leadership to take our school through 2020.
We are pleased to be able to announce:
School Leaders:
Term 1 - Erin Little and Jhed Monckton
Term 2 - Savannah Beard and James Hiam
Term 3 - Grace Chuwen and Darcy McHugh
Term 4 - Sophie Pynaert and Jack Banks
Sports House Leaders:
Hastings - Sophie Bentley and Ansh Singh
Macquarie - Charlie Maher and Jesse Cooper
Mitchell - Airlia Matthews and Cruz Rebecchi
Oxley - Zoe Little and Lenox Pearce
PRIMARY STUDENTS TOILET BLOCK REFURBISHMENT
It is with much excitement and relief that I can announce the beginning of our toilet block refurbishment in the Christmas holidays. After much waiting and planning with the amazing support of the St Agnes' Parish staff, I can confirm we will be starting this project once school finishes. Depending on how the process goes, much of it will be completed before we return to school. We will have arrangements in place to manage any short term discomfort in not having these available in the first weeks of school. We know that this will be well worth it once they are completed.
IMPORTANT EVENTS FOR NEXT WEEK…
We have two very significant events next week to be prepared for.
- Class transitions for 2020 - on Friday 13th December at 12:00pm, all students will move to their new classrooms with their new teachers for a session.
- Bust the Dust - also on Friday 13th December at 2:10pm, our school will be supporting St John’s school in Trangie for a raindance. This phenomenon came out of a great video on social media of the school having fun trying to encourage much needed rain to fall! There will be much fun around this event and we encourage parents to join us and make this a real community event! See poster in a later article of this newsletter.
P&F
Thank you to all of our families who came along to support our P&F event with the movie night under the stars. What a lovely atmosphere it was and we appreciate those who could come along and celebrate the year. On behalf of the school, I would like to thank our P&F for each event and area of support from this year. While there may only be a small number of P&F members this year, they have worked hard to ensure there were great community events and fundraising opportunities.
Please help us end the year on a high note by coming along if you can to the P&F social night and AGM at 6:00pm on Wednesday 11th December at Zebu. We would love to see some new faces and ideas to add to the great plans we have for 2020.

PDHPE AND THE 5 PROPOSITIONS
There are 5 propositions which underpin the NSW PDHPE K-10 syllabus.
These propositions have been adopted from the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education and are informed by a strong evidence-base.
The five propositions are interrelated and offer great potential and focus for the PDHPE key learning area. The propositions guide teaching, learning and assessment.
The following clip will help explain the 5 propositions in greater detail.

YEAR 4 CATHOLIC CARE OF THE AGED VISITS
Year 4 have concluded their visits to Maryknoll House, St Agnes’ Village and Emmaus for the term. They have shared their science project, poems and crafts with the residents of our Catholic Care of the Aged.
Our students need to be commended for the respect and care they displayed towards our elderly interacting with them with encouragement, enthusiasm and joy.
YEAR 6 YOUTH HUB - ADVENT NON-SACRAMENTAL RECONCILIATION SERVICE
Our Year 6 had an enjoyable day at the Youth Hub participating in a few activities, a shared lunch, and their Advent Reconciliation Service. Thanks to all those students who contributed fully to the day.
ST JOSEPH’S PRIMARY MASS FOR THANKSGIVING - ST AGNES’ CHURCH
Our school community will be celebrating Mass on Wednesday 11th December at 12:15pm. Thank you to Father Peter who will preside over our Mass for Thanksgiving.

PEER SUPPORT
In next week’s final session of Living Positively the children will reflect on what they have learned in Peer Support. They will remember to think optimistically, persevere and use positive self talk. The children will learn about a model - I laugh, I live, I love. This will help them to remember the activities they enjoy, their strengths and to show appreciation to others. Discuss with your child ways they can live positively.

Saints Youth Drama Christmas Concert
As mentioned in my last letter, the Saints Youth Drama Christmas Concert will be held in the school hall on Saturday 14th December commencing at 1:00pm. Entry is free but a donation box will be at the door to help buy more microphones for the school.
We ask that you bring some goodies to share for a party after the concert.
Students are to arrive fully dressed before 12.45pm so that our concert can run on time. I know this is a very busy time of year and I predict that it will end at approximately 2:30pm
A dress rehearsal (for St Joseph’s Primary) will be held on Friday 13th December at 10:00am. All primary and infant students are to bring their costumes and props to school on that day.
Our High School students are asked to bring their costumes to their lesson on Wednesday 11th December.
I am still waiting for the date of the Trinity exams, which unfortunately were cancelled due to the bush fires. As soon as I know, I will inform all participating students.

PBS - The Next Step Moving Forward
The students of St Joseph's have been doing such a great job at responding to the expectations presented at our Monday morning assemblies. The staff reward our student successes and positive choices with an MJR cross and MJR tokens.
Students receive these crosses when they initiate consistent positive, respectful behaviours.
Students who receive 3 MJR crosses will earn themselves a reward coupon and a certificate.
These coupons can be 'cashed' in for an appropriate reward such as:
* Skip the canteen line for a week - straight to the front of the line!
* Skip the bus line for a week - straight to the front of the line!
* Sit at the teacher's desk for the day.
* Lunch with Mrs Koning (or choice of teacher).
* 20 minute computer voucher (appropriate games etc).
* Icy pole.
* Lucky dip choice.
* Sit on a chair at Monday morning assembly for 2 weeks.

KINDERGARTEN AFFIRMATION CEREMONY
An important event on the Kinder calendar is our Affirmation Celebration on Monday 9th December at 2.30pm in our Kindergarten classrooms. This is an opportunity to acknowledge how much the children have grown over the year and reflect on the year that has been. We warmly invite you to join with us on this special occasion.

Kindergarten Teachers
Next Friday, 13th December from 2:10pm to 3:00pm we invite everyone, including our families, to participate in Bust the Dust. This is an initiative inspired by the students and staff at St John’s Parish School, Trangie to support all those affected by the drought. This will be a free out of uniform day, so get your best ‘boot-scootin’ outfit ready and be prepared to participate in praying for rain in a raindance!
