Signing in to the school and supervision
Thank you to those parents and carers who have assisted us in our sign in process entering school grounds. We appreciate you supporting us keeping all children safe.
We remind families that supervision in the morning at school begins at 8:30am. Students who arrive a short time before 8:30am are to sit under the COLA. There are a variety of before school care options who will drop students off to school in the morning. Please ask our lovely Office Aunties if you need details for these services due to early work days.
Condolences
It is with sadness that I share the news that Tracey McMahon, mother of Joseph Hunt in Year 5, passed away last Sunday after battling illness for some time. Joe’s siblings were former students of our school and we sent our prayers and condolences to his family this week on behalf of St Joseph’s community.
Parent and Carer involvement at school
We will be reintroducing opportunities for involvement back to school during this term in a variety of ways. We are looking for parents and carers to assist with canteen and school based activities. As teachers work through the best ways for this they will communicate with year groups. We warmly welcome you to come to events in our school such as prayer services and carnivals. Please watch the newsletter and your emails for notes as they come through across the term.
Families Learning Together
Another way we are promoting involvement of families and engagement in learning is through out of school sessions. We are planning forward some opportunities for families to come and learn about what happens at school in practical hands-on ways during the rest of 2021. Examples could include Digi-tech, Literacy, Numeracy, social and parenting support. We also are open to suggestions of parent sessions that support you with your children, so if you have an idea you think may be of benefit to you and others, please let us know so that we can work towards some of these.
Congratulations
It is with pleasure we announce the safe arrival of a new baby brother for Cooper Grant (6H) on Wednesday. Congratulations Cooper and family on baby Porter.

We pray for our children who are about to complete the Sacrament of Penance. This Sacrament has a rich history in our faith, instituted by Jesus and then, by the apostles. We pray they experience the mercy of God and grow in their relationship with God for the rest of their lives. The ceremonies begin at 6:00pm at St Agnes' Church on 25th, 26th May, 2nd and 3rd June.
Rotary Club, Port Macquarie - Sock Donations
Our Mini Vinnies Team are leading a sock donation campaign to break a world record for longest clothes line of socks to help raise funds and awareness of various charities run through the Rotary Club. Families are encouraged to donate an old, unpaired sock for the cause. Our hope is to help homeless youth by supporting the YP Space MNC (YPS). YPS is a specialist Youth Homelessness Service.
Newly Baptised!!
We welcome Liam McGovern to our Parish family who was Baptised in St Agnes' Church on 2nd May. Liam was joined by his family to support his first step in our Catholic tradition in a lovely ceremony that dates back to the time of Christ. We pray for Liam as he continues his journey in faith at our school.

WE'RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE
Today was Walk Safely to School Day which asked that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. Although walking all the way to school isn't realistic for many of us, you can build a walk into your family's daily routine.
Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. To help children develop vital road crossing skills children up to the age of 10 years should hold an adult's hand when crossing the road.
Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for next time.

Lunchtime Sporting Skills
After a fantastic first week, Mr Taylor and Mr Lynch led a very enthusiastic group of girls for our first Netball training session.
We continue to encourage all of our Year 5 and 6 students to participate in one of the four offered sports sessions that rotate fortnightly.
Athletics Carnival
Our annual whole school Athletics Carnival will take place on Friday 4th June and this year it will be held at St Joseph’s Regional College, Port Macquarie.
All students in Year 2 to 6 will be competing in 100m and 200m sprints along with novelty games. 100m and 200m sprints will be straight finals with times determining places. 100m sprints are conducted in individual age groups whilst all other events are run as Juniors (8, 9 and 10 years), 11 years and 12 years.
800m, 1500m and Discus events will be optional and you must nominate your child via the link in the note. The 1500m will be run between 9:00am - 9:30am on the day of the carnival. Any child wishing to compete in this event will need to be dropped to St Joseph’s Regional College by private transport by 8:50am.
Successful competitors from the carnival will be invited to attend the Hastings Zone Carnival to be held at St Joseph’s Regional College on Monday 19th July (Week 2 Term 3).
As the carnival is offsite we require your permission for your child to be able to attend. Please complete the online permission and nomination form via the link in the 11th May note by Tuesday 25th May.

Magic Beach
Yesterday our students in Kindergarten to Year 2 went to the live performance of ‘Magic Beach’ at the Glasshouse.
Alison Lester’s classic book came to life on stage in a wonderful world of text, song, light, shadow and movement. From the team behind The Gruffalo and The 13-, 26-, 52-, 78- and 91-Storey Treehouses, this new Australian adaptation from multi-award winning playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer is a celebration of the power of the imagination and the differences that make every child special.
A few quotes from the students in 2S about the show:
Hardy- I enjoyed seeing the dragon and the knight with the wooden sword.
Cailin- I enjoyed seeing the Magic Beach and loved the funny parts.
Savina- I loved it when the 11 year old sister said 'give me some of the blankets' at the end of the show.
Marco- I loved everything about the Magic Beach and I want to see it again!
Marcus- I liked when the campfire was brought out, it was colourful and it looked real.
Spencer- I liked it when the children were eating marshmallows around the campfire. It made me hungry!
Elsie S- This is the best show I have ever seen!
Whole school concert at The Glasshouse
This year our whole school Creative Arts program will run in Term 3, culminating in a whole school concert at The Glasshouse. ALL students in the school will be involved and performing at the Glasshouse on 30th and 31st August. Student participation will be through acting, singing, dance routines, Glee Club and Band.
Musica Viva Concert
All grades have been engaging in the Musica Viva program ‘Adventures in Antarctica’ this semester. The program culminates in an exciting live performance at school for the students on Monday 24th May at 12:30pm for Kindergarten - Year 2 and 2:00pm for Years 3 - 6.
