Year 4 Science - The Design Thinking Process
In Science this term Year 4 have been learning about materials and their purpose. The students have been working hard with a number of hands-on investigative tasks to develop an understanding of natural and processed materials and their suitability for a particular purpose. Over the last 3 weeks we have been busy putting our learning into action.

As a team they were tasked with designing and constructing a prototype for a COVID safe, isolation home. Not only were the students able to use their scientific knowledge to design and make the structure of the home, students also developed empathy for those who might need to isolate for two weeks by making the home a safe, happy, healthy and active environment. This unexpected learning from the students of Year 4 linked nicely into our Term 3 Health unit where students were able to identify what skills and strategies we as human beings would need to be healthy, safe and empowered.

After constructing their homes, students then created videos and iMovies, sharing their learning and highlighting the reasons they chose their different materials. Students worked collaboratively not only in their groups but also as a year group, sharing their digital technology skills and knowledge to ensure that all students were active participants in their learning.

We are so proud of everything that Year 4 has been able to achieve this term. They have shown maturity and developed a sense of respect and responsibility for each other's skills and knowledge within the classroom learning environment.
Well done Year 4
