The Principal's Report

Kindergarten 2022

A reminder to existing families and those who may be looking to join our community, that interviews are currently being held for Kindergarten students in 2022 for all of our Parish schools. We expect that enrolment applications and interviews that are completed by the end of next week, will receive letters regarding placements by the last week of term. If you have a child you wish to enrol for 2022 or know of someone else who is in this position, please encourage them to complete an application as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Uniform Review and current uniforms

All Parish Primary schools had communicated to families earlier this year regarding a uniform review being conducted over the past two years. This was in response to families and students requesting a change that reflects students learning and playing in more contemporary and appropriate clothes. The result of this will be a new uniform that is expected to be ready by the end of 2021, so that they can be purchased for the start of the 2022 school year. In the coming weeks, the Parish team will prepare and provide a sample of the finished product for parents and carers to view. We will inform you when this will be displayed.

Due to the changes, we didn’t expect families to purchase a range of new uniforms that would be replaced quickly, so have encouraged the use of our second hand options at school and in the community. We do expect that correct items will be worn throughout the rest of 2021, as we are seeing jumpers and others items that are not from our uniform list. Students will be asked to leave these at home if they are wearing them. If there is an issue due to a lost item, a note for a temporary solution will be accepted. The school will have some loan items where possible for this winter period especially for Year 6 students who will not need one in 2022.

Traditionally, after the long weekend we have changed from Summer to Winter uniform. As advised earlier this year, the Principals of each Parish primary school are aware of minimising costs where possible. At a practical level, we have discussed the expectations of Winter uniforms for 2021, mindful of avoiding families purchasing new items that will not be used in the changeover cycle.

The decision has been agreed upon, that girls in Kindergarten to Year 6 will not wear the current navy tunic and long sleeved shirt during Winter 2021. This means that both boys and girls will continue to dress in their current Summer and Sports uniform throughout 2021. Girls can add navy tights and jumpers to provide warmth during the colder months, as boys can add long sleeved shirts and long pants. If you currently have a Winter tunic and you feel your daughter would be more comfortable in the cold weather they are welcome to wear it this year. Ties will not be required for any students. All students may continue to add the green sports tracksuit on sport days to provide warmth.

There will still be the option to continue wearing current uniform items during 2022 for those wanting to get full use of them before moving into the new uniform. Second hand supplies are dependent on sizes being available through the generosity of donations from families no longer needing them. We are planning on organising what is in our uniform room very soon and displaying these at certain times of the day in a space where parents and carers can come and purchase at a low cost, what they may need to get them through this year. To assist in this exercise, we are asking that if you have any uniforms your child has outgrown or won’t be using, please consider donating them to the school for others to use. We have had one offer of a parent assisting in this organising process and would value any other parents who have some time to also make these available for our community. You can do this by contacting our Office Aunties.

Lost Uniform Items

We have been hearing from a number of frustrated parents and carers, who have items of uniforms that are missing, particularly jumpers which are needed on the current colder days. It is vital that your child has their name in each item of their uniform to make finding or returning these simple. It is also vital that you check at home and in school bags the items that your child has, to ensure they actually belong to them. Parents and carers have invested a lot of money into uniforms and we ask that you assist others by checking what you have and returning to teachers or the office any items that are not your child’s.
