Sharing Our Learning
Indigenous Ceramics Day

Each Indigenous Nation has its own special totems that are a link between the natural world, spiritual beliefs and personal responsibilities. Individuals and families may also have totems that are part of their ancestry. The Birpai Nation has a number of local totems which include the eagle, kangaroo, stingray, porpoise and shark.
On Monday our Year 4 to 6 Indigenous students took part in a special cultural experience at St Joseph's Regional College. The day involved creating large ceramic totem cuffs, interacting with Year 10 Indigenous students, experiencing the Yarning Circle, making new friendships, establishing mentors and touring the school.
The totem cuffs created will be fired and glazed at St Joseph's Regional College and will form a large totem post in our new Indigenous Garden. We would like to thank Mr Caleb Smith and Mrs Elise Howard for organising the experience and St Joseph's Regional College staff and students for a brilliant day.
