Kindergarten Enrolments 2023

We are currently interviewing families for Kindergarten enrolments for 2023. In all of our Parish schools, we are in the position that placements will be full very quickly at this early stage. While siblings will always be given priority over new families, we still require application forms at the same time as those seeking new enrolments to know how many offers of placement we can make. We are unsure if we still have current families who haven’t completed their forms yet. Please make contact with the school by next week if you have not yet applied.

School Uniforms

As we have moved into the winter season now, we have certainly felt the colder weather. Although we are in a phase-in year of our new uniforms, it is still important to remember that the new uniform items are set. For students who are wearing the full new uniform (navy), the items that are listed for cooler weather are the jacket, jumper and long tracksuit pants. This does not include stockings or tights, which were items for the girl’s winter uniform previously. We will check the stocks of the St Agnes’ Uniform Store to ensure there are enough supplies for our families to purchase the new pants and will let you know if there are any concerns with this.

All Year 4 and 5 students will celebrate with our First Holy Communion Candidates during a Reflection Day on Tuesday 14th June. This will be a day to reflect upon this special sacrament, by learning about the separate parts of the Mass and the items used during the celebration of Mass. It will also be a special day of prayer and deepening our faith together.

Christian Meditation

In our busy world, children are bombarded at an early age with noises, stimuli, and a message to keep busy. As a result, our consistent fast pace can detract from our ability to be still and silent with God. One of the ways to regain this is by teaching children the practise of Christian Meditation.

Christian Meditation is a simple way of silent prayer practised by Christians as early as the fourth century. Children are natural meditators and readily open their hearts and minds to God’s presence within and around them. Over time, as we develop a regular practice, meditation changes us. The changes that take place can best be described as in St Paul’s letter to the Galatians, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22)

Here at St Joseph’s we make a commitment to Christian Meditation after Lunch 1 everyday.

Learning Together

How much should I pack in my Child’s lunchbox?

This is a question that is often asked, especially by parents and carers. It depends on lots of things such as how active they are, what their appetite is like and whether they prefer to sit and take their time eating or to race off to play as soon as they can.

How much to pack can be trial and error. Think about how much your child normally eats when they are at home with you during normal school hours.

Make sure to pack these everyday:

  • Something made with whole grain carbohydrates like a sandwich, wrap or roll, naan, roti, pasta, rice, couscous or quinoa. Carbohydrates give kids the energy they need to make it through the day.
  • Vegetables, because most kids don’t eat enough and including some at school is the best way to up their intake.  It’s as easy as some cherry tomatoes, carrot sticks or salad in their sandwich.  Just a few strips of red capsicum gives you all the Vitamin C you need for the day!
  • Some protein to keep them full like cheese, chicken, tuna, egg or hummus in a sandwich.
  • Some fruit, either in season fresh, dried or tubs in natural juice.
  • A water bottle, as kids get thirsty and water is the best way to keep them hydrated. Freeze it to keep their lunch cold.

For kids who like a bit more at lunchtime pack:

  • Some dairy foods like plain milk or plain yoghurt for growing healthy bones and teeth.
  • Extra fruit and vegetables.
  • A bigger sandwich or roll.

Get your kids involved in planning and packing their lunch box
