Year 4 Accendere Youth Hub Day

Student Responses

At the Youth Hub we learnt about friendship and I did learn something - that you should not be shy. You could invite people over and you could eventually make  new friendships with them. Don’t bully people on how they look and act, talk and play with them. At the Youth Hub, Laurieton school came too and it was really nice because we could invite them over to play and chat. For lunch we shared hot chips. We were put into groups and we did activities like: How can we be a good friend, (we wrote this on hearts). We also got pipe cleaners and we turned them into how we like to play with our friends. I would really like to go back and I think Year 3 will like it when they are in Year 4. ~Indhi Kingsmith

Accendere helped me and my friend make new friends from St Joseph’s in Laurieton. It was fun. I played footy with the kids and we won. I learnt to help anyone in need. I learnt that to be a good friend you need to be sharing, kind, helpful, respectful and resilient. It was a big day, in fact I am happy, I might be going again. The Youth Hub is great! ~Sunny Stapleton

Accendere can be about friendship. When you make a friend you have to have compassion. You have to have humility and you have to have courage; like when you build something together you will have to respect them and listen to them in order to finish. If you want to be a good friend you will have to show courage which means to be kind and be aware of others feelings. When you make a friend you have to care for them and encourage them to do new things. Just like how Year 4 had a day with Laurieton to make new friends. Everyone can do that anywhere such as in your neighbourhood or at the park. If you can manage to do all of this I’m sure you will be a great friend. ~Harlow Maher

Accendere means to switch on or spark a flame, by being a good friend by caring for others and not being judgemental. By being a friend it makes yourself happy and the ones around you. And what makes a good friend? Being kind and sharing. Accendere itself is making new friendships and for me I went to the Youth Hub and played games and had hot chips. I played with play dough and pipe cleaners and at lunch played pool. I made two good friends and that’s what it is all about. ~Lenny Dixon

Last Wednesday, Year 4 went to the Youth Hub to learn all about friendship. We also had St Joseph’s Year 4 from Laurieton join us. On the way down we walked and it was so funny watching everyone chasing their hats because it was really windy. Then when we got there we broke into groups. First I went with Mrs Rennes and we got to throw a ball and whatever our thumb landed on we had to share. Then after Mrs Rennes, we went to Mrs Hatherly. She told us a story about the Good Samaritan and we had to draw or use play dough to retell the story. Then we finished that group and I smelt something really good. It was the hot chips! After we were done we went back to the groups. We learnt all different things there about friends. It was really fun. I think we should do it every year. ~Lilly Smith
