A NEW SYLLABUS IS COMING!
In 2020 we will be rolling out the new Personal Development, Health and Physical Education syllabus. The new syllabus is shaped by five propositions, organised into three content strands, with a focus on three PDHPE skill domains. The following diagram provides an illustrative representation of these elements and their relationship.
The outside of the circle is comprised of five interrelated PDHPE Propositions. Adopted from the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education, they are informed by a strong evidence base to ensure that the PDHPE curriculum is contemporary and future-focused. The propositions guide teaching, learning and assessment.
The new syllabus focuses on a strength-based approach which aims to:
- Affirm that most students are healthy, safe, active and well, and bring with them strengths, capacities and resources.
- Encourage students to use their own strengths in a wide range of situations to optimise their own and others’ health, safety and wellbeing.
- Encourage teachers to use learning experiences to focus on the capacities, competencies, values and hopes of all students, regardless of their current circumstances.
Ultimately the aim of the new syllabus is to enable students to develop the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes required to lead and promote healthy, safe and active lives. We are looking forward to planning and implementing some new and exciting units in 2020.
