The Principal's Report

It has been lovely to see most of our students back to school for their transition days this week! Our staff and students have enjoyed seeing each other in person after so long for some. Hopefully, getting those excited or nervous first steps back to school out of the way, the next steps to full return to school will be just a little easier.

I have chosen to keep my video message format consistent; if you have any feedback on how this is for you, or any suggestions as to what else you would value, please feel free to drop me a message.

  • Thank you for your continued support, feedback and messages of encouragement.
  • On Monday we trialled a new pick up routine with our pick up areas. We weren’t satisfied with how our plan for K-2 went, so from Tuesday, we changed the arrangement so that all students in K-6 are collected from the gate at the far end of the school (near the Hall). This seems to have worked well and we will continue this format. We ask parents to social distance outside the gate, lining up from the gate to down the end of the street. Parents will be directed into the gate a few at a time and children will be asked to look and come to you as you continue to walk out through the side gate into the Reserve. This also makes it easy to move back to your car, whether you are parked in Warlters Street or Aston Street.
  • Week 4:
    • Blended Learning continues as in Week 3. Week 4 Blended Learning Plans will come to you on Monday 18th May.
    • While you are learning at home, still only do what you can.
    • Please remember to complete attendance messaging as normal.
    • Adult social distancing is still to be followed by staff and parents - no parents are to be in the school grounds except office attendance, and we will have staggered lunch breaks for staff and students.
    • Drop off will be only via the bus gate in the mornings, no walking to classrooms. Please adhere to the parking zones as usual.
    • Pick up K-6 will be from the gate at the far end of Warlters Street (near the Hall). Adult social distancing is still to be followed while waiting for teachers to assist children to parents or carers.
    • Buses will be as usual via the bus gate for all Grades - no parents or carers are to congregate where buses collect students.
    • Children must remain at home if they show any signs of cold or flu symptoms. If they present unwell at school they will be sent home. The same applies for our staff, who will not be allowed to “soldier on” either.
  • Week 5 and 6:
    • A parent note was emailed to you on Wednesday 13th May stating that all classes will return to school at the start of Week 5 (Monday 25th May).
    • Blended Learning format will continue for Week 5 and 6 for those choosing to learn from home.
  • Week 7 onwards:
    • Week 7 (Tuesday 9th June - after the long weekend), Blended Learning ceases and school returns to compulsory attendance for students and all staff will be on site.
    • Learning will continue to focus on English, Maths and Religious Education as priority subjects to the end of Term 2, as these are the areas which will be reported on for Semester 1. Teachers will provide learning which integrates other areas into each week.
  • Our community:
    • We hope Mother’s Day was special for our parents, carers and other wonderful role models. We loved being a little part of that with you.
    • If your child is interested in the Joey’s Olympics, don’t forget to send in their sport videos by Friday 22nd May!
    • Next week is the launch of our Creative opportunity for children to showcase their talents ... look out for the information on Google Classrooms.
    • Creative Kids Providers: One of our mums had some great advice this week - MyServiceNSW have made available to families vouchers for creative activities and this now includes SUPPLIES for things like Art. Knowing that many of you would be using supplies while working at home with your children, this may be of interest to you.
