Reviewing 'Joeys Jottings' Newsletter - Community Feedback invited
You may have noticed over the past months that there have been some changes to our newsletter as well as our website late last year. We are working through a process that will make our communication platforms more meaningful to our families and wider community. Many things are emailed to families as this is a medium that most people use in their daily lives extensively, but as a school we also use our newsletter, website and social media to share different elements of our school.
The newsletter in particular, is a place where most communication happens and we would like this to be a place that our families engage with. As we look at redesigning and launching a new Joey's Jottings Newsletter, during the initial stages we value your ideas and input.
Please share your thoughts with us by filling out this short Google form - https://forms.gle/BisjNmw8KetFogFL6
Website updates
If you haven’t looked lately, our website has undergone quite a few changes too. The format is much more contemporary and easy to navigate, and this development will continue in the coming months. One of the main areas we are now looking at are the visual elements by way of photos, due to the change of uniform and age of some of the photos that have in the past been the public face of our school. As you will appreciate, this is an ongoing process, and as this is the first place that people outside of our school will see, it is important that we continue to make this a great reflection of our school. It is also a very useful place for our families to access important information, so continue to check it out as we work on it.
Band Performance
Our wonderful Band students who have been working each week to develop their skills at their chosen instruments and at working together, are very excited to be sharing this with us next week. At our assembly next Friday 17th June which takes place between 2:20 to 2:45pm, our Band will be showcasing their progress so far. All parents and carers are invited each week to our prayer assemblies, but we are certain that families of our students in Band would love to see how they are going. We look forward to seeing you there.
Thinking of Our Community
Our sympathy goes out to Jesse Leslie (6H) and his family for the recent loss of his Grandmother.
Celebrating Our Faith
Pentecost
Last week we celebrated Pentecost as a Parish and School.
Just before Jesus was taken up to heaven he told the disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on them and they'd be his witnesses in the whole world (Acts 1:8). Even more, he told them much earlier that the Holy Spirit would be sent by the Father, that He would teach them all things and remind them of everything he said to them (John 14:26).
Year 4 celebrated in prayer and reflection during this special time in our Liturgical Calendar. Isla shared this beautiful reflection.
Look how they are filled with the Holy Spirit!
First Holy Communion Masses
Our Year 4 and 5 students will attend their reflection day here at school next Tuesday 14th June. We look forward to preparing with them and supporting our friends making their Sacrament of First Holy Communion.

Learning Together
Semester 1 Student School Reports and Parent Portal
In Week 10 our student Semester 1 School Reports will go live. Reporting on student progress and achievement is an integral part of the teaching and learning process. Reporting provides a formal avenue for communicating information about student achievement and progress. This report is a culmination of two terms learning and an opportunity to share with parents, formally, how their child is progressing. Parents will be able to access the reports via the Parent Portal.
The Parent Portal is a secure web based application which contains information about the school and your child including the schools google calendar, semester reports, NAPLAN results and class and teacher information. We have been using this system for a few years now, however, if you are new to our school or haven’t registered previously the instructions are listed below for you.
An account needs to be created as a first step. For security reasons the username for this account must be your email address recorded at the school. The process is as follows.
- Log in to http://parent.lism.catholic.edu.au and create an account with your email address as the username.
- An email will be sent to this address stating that a new account has been created and includes instructions to activate your account by following the embedded link.
- If the email does not arrive check your spam folder.
- You will be prompted to create a password and to confirm this password.
- Select the blue login button. Add the username and new password created in step 4.
- Click on the Schoolworx icon to enter the Schoolworx parent portal.
- Select your child.
- Log out when done.
If you do not have an email address which is known to the school or you have changed your email address or provider please contact the school office to update your details.
These instructions are also available on our website via the ‘Portals & Links’ tab.

Term 2 Sport - Basketball Coaching Sessions
We welcomed Robert Linton and his team from the Port Macquarie Basketball Association back to our school for the second week of basketball skills training. Our students had a blast and are looking forward to even more fun next week.
Athletics Carnival
Unfortunately due to ground conditions and wet weather, we have been unable to hold our annual Athletics Carnival at St Joseph’s Regional College or here at school on the original scheduled date. We are currently investigating other venues and dates. Once a decision has been made we will share the details.
Student Success
We at St Joseph’s are extremely proud of Joel Crook and Lainey Campbell for the huge effort they have both put in to attend the Australian Martial Arts championships over the last 3 weeks.
They competed in 2 rounds and have achieved fantastic results, both qualifying for the State Championships.
The next round is in Port Macquarie and we wish both of them the best of luck.

Our Year 1 students have been using a digital resource called Osmo during their Literacy Investigation time. The Osmo has hands-on learning games in which students use objects in the real world to interact with the digital world shown on their iPad. This merges tactile exploration with innovative technology, actively engaging children in the learning process. Osmo games foster social-emotional skills like problem-solving, creativity and perseverance.

Ongoing Stock Shortages
Unfortunately there is a supply shortage on the Gluten Free nuggets and I am unable to source them anywhere at the moment. I will keep trying to get them and update Flexischools ordering system accordingly when they are available again. As an alternative, I have updated Flexischools with some other Gluten Free options (all ingredients used are gluten free).
Volunteers
I am still looking for more volunteers to help in the canteen. Volunteers are only required to come in to help for three hours once a month, or you can come in more often if you like.
You can register to volunteer via this link - Click here for Volunteers Form. You will also need to email or drop in a copy of your Volunteer Working With Children Check and a proof of double vaccination to sjpport@lism.catholic.edu.au. After registering your availability in the above online form and sending in your supporting documents Kim, our Canteen Co-ordinator will be in contact with you to arrange your first day.

Hastings Farm Gate Tour
June Long Weekend Family Fun
This year 17 hosts farms and permaculture gardens open their gates to share their passions including permaculture, pasture raised pigs, avos, cattle breeding, urban farming, eggs, veggies and more… Most of them are “family friendly” so kids (and kids at heart) will have the opportunity to see, touch or feed farm animals. On the Hastings Farm Gate Tour there are: chickens, goats, cows, pigs, horses and of course, puppies! Tickets are per carload so pack your kids and a picnic and enjoy 3 days of fun while learning about locally grown fresh food, regenerative farming techniques and how to grow your own produce. Get your ticket here: https://www.ticketebo.com.au/hastingsfarmgatetour
