Celebrating our Youngest and Oldest
Kinder Transition
This week on Tuesday and Wednesday we welcomed the newest members of our school community, Kindergarten 2023.
Our 2023 Kindergarten class were very brave and excited to see their new teachers again and enjoy some time in the classrooms. We welcomed our Kindergarten parents to mingle and meet each other as well as into our Year 1 classrooms to experience a phonics lesson.
We look forward to seeing our new Kindergarten friends again next Wednesday 23rd November from 9:15am to 10:45am for their final transition. Don’t forget the children are invited to bring 50c to spend at the canteen, are asked to wear their Joey’s T-shirt again and return their drawing on the photo frame sheet if they haven’t already done so.
Year 6 Parish Mass and Social Transition
Students from our 5 local Parish Primary Schools came together today to celebrate Mass led by Proclaim Lismore Wildfire. Afterwards led by Year 9 Youth Ministry classes, they made new friends from the other schools who they will be going to Secondary School with next year. Check out these photos to see how much fun they had.
Christmas Hampers - Out of Uniform Gold Coin Donation
Thank you for the wonderful donations so far. Please check your children’s bags for their individual paper note that went home last week from their teacher, listing the item/s they are asked to bring in to support our Parish Hamper Appeal. We are very grateful for your generosity and support.
Children are invited to come out of uniform on Tuesday 22nd November for a gold coin donation to go towards our St Agnes' Parish Christmas Hampers. The children are welcome to come in Christmas theme.
We would like to extend an invitation to our St Joseph’s $20 Boss Fair and Showcase sessions where our students will be selling their products and showcasing their learning. These will be held on Wednesday 23rd November at 9:15 -10:30am and Monday 28th November at 2:15 - 3:00pm.
The world is changing at an unprecedented pace. Automation, globalisation and more flexible working arrangements are rapidly reshaping our economy and work.
$20 Boss is a nationwide immersive entrepreneurship program for upper primary and secondary school students. Each student was provided with $20 of start-up capital to help them create, launch and operate their enterprise over the course of a school term.
Using the $20 Boss Program the Year 5 students have created and will present a model for social enterprise, to respond to God’s call and continue the mission of the Church, like Mary.
The students will then return $20 to The Young Change Agents (if a profit is made) and donate any additional profits made to a charity. The charity they choose to donate to will be decided by the students under the guidance of the teachers at the culmination of the project.
Thank you to our Year 5 teachers Mr Samuel Taylor and Miss Bianca Jamison for leading this with our students and to Ms Laura Hatherly our Assistant Principal Mission and Mrs Sarah Blundell our Leader of Digital Technologies and Innovation for supporting the Year 5 Team.
We look forward to seeing our St Joseph's Community at our Fair and Showcase sessions.
Each year, our school likes to acknowledge Mental Health Month by creating a whole school project. This year, the theme of Mental Health Month is ‘Tune In’. Tune into your own wellbeing, but also tuning in to the wellbeing of the community around you.
On Monday I had the opportunity to talk to the school community about tuning into the wellbeing of each other. At the same time, each member of our school community who was present on Monday had the opportunity to contribute to our whole school project - The ‘Be Kind’ Mural.
This mural says: In a world where you can: Be Kind.
We were lucky enough to have a very talented past student (Jimmie Carney) create the artwork and wording for our mural - and each student and staff member then placed their painted handprint on it.
The mural will hang in the Infants eating area as a reminder to all that being kind to others - even with just a smile - not only improves the wellbeing of the community, but also increases our own wellbeing.

During Peer Support this week children looked at how to play in a friendly way in order to maintain friends and build positive relationships. The children engaged in a number of activities that highlighted the importance of taking turns and having consistent rules throughout a game.
You can encourage your child to practise these skills by playing games with siblings, family or friends.

COVID Update and Continued COVID-Smart Measures
NSW Health recently advised that we are already starting to see a rise in COVID-19 transmissions within the community, with a peak of cases expected in early December.
COVID-smart measures continue to be in place and are vital in allowing us to keep our schools operational while prioritising student and staff wellbeing. These measures include:
- staying home if unwell and/or showing any symptoms;
- using rapid antigen tests (RATs) when showing symptoms or exposed to COVID-19; and
- NSW Health also encouraging everyone in the community to continue to register positive RATs with Service NSW to ensure they receive timely support and advice, including access to antivirals for those eligible.
Our school will continue to have RATs available to families. Please contact the Office Aunties if you require any.
