We would love to hear your thoughts
Thank you to those who were able to attend our Parent Information Sessions in Week 5 of this term.
We felt there was a great sense of community during both evenings. We value your feedback. Thank you for completing the quick form via the link below to let us know your thoughts.
Upcoming Partners in Learning Survey - Tell Them From Me
Next term we will be inviting students, teachers and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey when it is shared with you soon. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Joseph’s Primary School.
Emergency Evacuation and Lockdown Drills
From time to time the school participates in an emergency drill so that we all know how to respond in an emergency. There are two types of drills: A Lockdown or an Emergency Evacuation. Each staff member has specific roles for ensuring the safety and care of our students in these situations.
A Lockdown occurs when there is an external threat and involves students and staff taking shelter in buildings and ‘locking down’. If a Lockdown occurs no person will be permitted to enter or leave the buildings/school for its duration.
An Emergency Evacuation occurs when the school community needs to be evacuated to a particular evacuation point because of an event such as a fire.
Earlier this week we sounded the emergency alarm sirens across the school while announcing and discussing in classes what they were for so that students are familiar with the different siren sounds. Next week we will be holding a practise emergency drill. Students will be debriefed after the drill while staff evaluate its effectiveness.
If you have any questions regarding this please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Reminder - Administering Non-Prescription Medication
A reminder to parents that when a student presents to the school office / administration / sick bay and is feeling unwell or experiencing significant or acute pain, a member of staff will contact their parent or guardian seeking permission to administer non-prescription medication (eg. paracetamol or antihistamine) if you have supplied some for us to hold onsite for your child. If a parent or guardian can not be contacted, the student will stay in the school office / administration / sick bay however we will not be able to give them any non-prescription medication. You will receive a phone call each time your child presents to the school office / administration / sick bay seeking consent.

Lent the Musical
Year 3 and Year 4 travelled to St Joseph's Regional College to watch 'Lent' the Mini-Musical this week. Thank you to the College's Year 9 students for the opportunity to view your production. Check out the photos:
We are excited to share that our Year 5 students have been learning about the Colonisation of Australia. As part of their learning experience, Year 5 were fortunate enough to have one of our Indigenous Education Workers, Leanne Parsons, talked to them about Aboriginal culture. Leanne shared stories and insights about the traditional way of life of the Indigenous people and how they have been impacted since the arrival of European settlers.
Leanne also taught the students how to make humpies, which are traditional shelters made from natural materials. The students had a great time working together to create their own humpies and learning about the different techniques and materials used by the Indigenous people.
We encourage the community to keep an eye out for the humpies at homelines and see if they have lasted the week in the natural elements. This will be a great opportunity for the students to observe the durability of the shelters and reflect on the resilience and ingenuity of the Indigenous people.
We are proud of our students for showing a great interest and respect for the history and culture of Australia and we look forward to further exploring this topic with them.
Thank you for your continued support.

Remy Collier Mid Coast Football Club Development Squad
Remy was selected for the Mid Coast Football Club Under 9's Representative squad.
Remy loves to play and have a go at all sports but is a very passionate football player. Remy is the youngest in his U9's representative side. Last weekend, the U9 MCFC Representative team competed in their second Gala Day for the season in Coffs Harbour. The team played six games and were undefeated in all of them, with one game being an extra game against an U10's representative team.
What an achievement, well done!
