Compass School Communication Platform - unique username and password
We are in the final stages of the onboarding process to our new communication platform ‘Compass School Manager’. Please find below an image outlining significant dates in the onboarding process.
You may wish to check with the school your current registered email address, and mobile phone number so that your unique username and password can be communicated to you. Every parent/guardian/carer receives a separate login to Compass which we will send to you on Monday 10th July.
If you share an email address with your significant other, then you will receive two emails with two unique logins and these will be sent to you. Your username and password is unique to you, families will not share a username and password, and it will come from an address noreply@compass.email - you may need to check your junk mail box.
A final communication regarding the change to Compass will be communicated in Week 9.
School Hours and Supervision of Students
Lessons commence each morning at 8:55am and conclude at 3:10pm on Mondays to Fridays. The school grounds are open to students from 8:25am each morning and remain open until 3:30pm each afternoon. At all times outside this period there is no supervision of students, with the exception of school organised programs eg. Drama classes and Band practice.
We are aware that some students have been arriving prior to the supervised start time. Please note from Tuesday 13th June, the front gate will open at 8:00am. However, no responsibility can be taken by the school for any consequences of the activities of students outside 8:25am to 3:30pm.
Would you please assist the school in the interests of the students’ safety by ensuring that your child does not attend or remain in the precincts of the school outside the hours of 8:25am to 3:30pm on Mondays to Fridays. Any parent or guardian who has difficulty in complying with this framework of supervision is requested to contact our Principal, Mr Baker in order to discuss what arrangements might be able to be made for your child.
Please support us in maintaining your children’s safety and wellbeing as we work together to create a safe and happy environment.
We are aware that there have been a few cases of COVID-19 in the Port Macquarie community recently. Please find below our current COVID-19 management guidelines in line with NSW Health.
Stay home if unwell
- If your child is unwell, you must keep them at home.
- If they are displaying COVID-19 symptoms, they should take a COVID-19 test (PCR or RAT) and follow the advice from the NSW Government on managing COVID-19 safely at home.
- Your child should only return to school when they are symptom free.
Rapid antigen testing
- Rapid antigen tests (RATs) should be used if your child is displaying COVID-19 symptoms. The school has test kits available. If you require these please contact the Office Aunties.
- Students who test positive to COVID-19 are encouraged to notify the school and register their positive test results with Service NSW to have access to timely advice and support from NSW Health.
Hygiene and cleaning
- Students are encouraged to regularly wash their hands with soap and water.
For your convenience we have included here an information sheet from NSW Health containing useful information around ‘Testing positive to COVID-19 and managing COVID-19 safely at home’.
Thank you for your support of our community.

Year 3 to 6 Glasshouse Excursion
This week, Years 3 to 6 had the wonderful opportunity of visiting the Glasshouse to view and participate in the performance 'The Alphabet of Awesome Science'. They joined professors Lexi Con (the Word Nerd) and Noel Edge (the Science Freak) for a thrilling voyage through the alphabet – where great big chewy sesquipedalian words inspired mind-blowing scientific surprises. A quirky scientific demonstration was performed for every letter of the alphabet in just 52 minutes! That’s just 2 minutes per experiment! The students highly enjoyed the interactive experience with their peers and teachers.
Huge thanks to the Creative Arts Nest for coming to visit us showcasing the A4Art Comp pop-up exhibition! We can’t wait to have another look at it tonight with our families at the town Artwalk Port Macquarie
Year 6 Visual Arts Animal Portraits
The lesson began with a study of Albrecht Durer's animal images, fostering discussions about composition and the iterative nature of drawing. The students contemplated the reasons behind pet portraits and the motivations of artists in creating them.
To enhance their understanding of animal anatomy, students traced photocopied pet images using geometric shapes and coloured pencils. This exercise encouraged them to move away from simplistic representations and consider the skeletal sections of the body, head and limbs.
The use of charcoal was introduced, emphasising its ability to create monotone images. By examining Durer's work, the students learned how to vary shades to create dark tones and tints to produce lighter ones.
Guided by the teacher, students drafted their drawings using light lines, which could be darkened later. They were encouraged to closely observe the pet photos, capturing the details and shapes they saw rather than relying on preconceptions.
As their drawings took shape, the students employed softer lines to enhance contours and features. They further refined their skills by experimenting with different pet photo stimuli, referencing Durer's drawings for positioning inspiration.
After creating multiple images, students selected their favourite as the primary piece. They had the option to redraw it or use the initial draft, darkening the lines that best represented their vision.
To add depth, students utilised dark and light elements, exploring the use of erasers to lighten charcoal drawings and create contrast. They also learned to shade gradients for backgrounds, considering the impact of light and shadow.
Throughout the lesson, students explored the artistic concepts of monotone, varying tones, and drawing techniques. They discussed the purpose behind pet portraits, how artists approach their work, and the varying interpretations of artworks.
The students' achievements were assessed based on their application of these concepts, their ability to discuss the purpose of pet portraits, and their understanding of portraits' multiple meanings.
The animal portrait lesson proved to be an engaging and enriching experience for our Year 6 students. Their newfound skills and artistic exploration have led to remarkable achievements and personal growth in the realm of art.
