Welcome Back
I would like to wish all of our families a wonderful start back to school for this term. I hope the holiday time was a chance to refresh and relax a little over Easter.
We have started well this week with lots of great community experiences together.
- Our Cross Country on Tuesday was a wonderful day for competitive and non-competitive runners, but in particular, it was exciting to have parents and carers able to join us. Today those students who were successful and will represent us in the Zone level of Cross Country received their awards; we look forward to their continued pathway in sport next week.
- Yesterday afternoon a team of our wonderful staff took potential Kindergarten 2022 families through the school for a tour. With enrolments open and another tour on Saturday 1st May, we encourage all current and future families to complete their online applications via the link on our school website as soon as possible.
- Today, we also remembered those who have given so much to keep our country safe over many years with an ANZAC Day prayer service. On Sunday, while we won’t be able to march as usual, we encourage families to mark this day in other ways. You will see more in the “Celebrating Our Faith” section of the newsletter. Please note Monday is not a Public Holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone for a normal school day.
Next week is another great week, as we celebrate what it means to be part of Catholic Education, marked by 200 years in 2021. This is of great significance to our Parish and school, so we hope that you will enjoy this with us and celebrate “Faith in the Future”. Staff and students are getting excited about dressing on Friday as people from the past, with some great activities planned for all grades.
You may notice a bit of a theme already this term….we are seeing a return of community involvement in school that we have not seen for a year! We are so excited that we will be able to offer more opportunities for parents and carers to be with us this term in lots of ways, so please continue to look at our newsletter and notes that will come home, inviting you to spend time with us. There will still be some guidelines to follow, but that is a small price to pay for being able to see each other more.
Thinking of our community
Our sympathy goes out to Noah and Archie Rex (KBC and 2S) and their family for the recent loss of their Great Grandmother to whom both boys were very close to.

Sacrament of Penance
The Sacrament of Penance will commence this term for Year 4, 5 and 6 candidates on 25th May, 26th May, 2nd June and 3rd June. This information was sent to registered families, including the process for nominating your preferred date. Please follow this up if you wish to avoid missing out on a particular date. We continue to pray for these children’s journey towards this important and peaceful step in their faith journey.
Catholic Education Week
The theme for Catholic Education Week this year is ‘Faith in the Future’. Next week, we celebrate 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia during Catholic Education Week. To help celebrate, we are turning back the clock to experience school 200 years ago with the theme of ‘Yesteryear’. Students are invited to dress up in plain clothes or colonial fashion on Friday 30th April. Staff may look a little ancient (more than usual) and students will get to join in some games and activities from bygone years. We will celebrate with a prayer service to offer our appreciation for what Catholic Education has brought to our country and the many people it has helped to educate throughout our history.
Here is a song written for Catholic Education Week. Students from our famous Faith Choir have been busy learning to sing this beautiful song.
Saint Joseph
We are very lucky to have two feast days celebrating our Patron, Saint Joseph the Worker, which falls on Saturday 1st May. Our school will have a focus on Saint Joseph on Monday 3rd May.
Proclaim - Staff Faith Formation
Staff from all over the Lismore Diocese will gather for a day dedicated to our faith as Catholic Educators on Wednesday 5th May. This is a pupil free day. There will be limited child-minding on this day. If you require child minding, please contact the office before Friday 30th April.
Mother's Day
We will host a prayer service to celebrate Mother’s Day on Friday 7th May. We are excited to be able to have our mothers present during this prayer. Details regarding this will follow.
ANZAC Day
Our school commemorated ANZAC Day today with a service and prayer for all souls who sacrificed their lives, families and friends to protect our country.
We wish Jack Cremins well as our student representative who will be laying down the wreath during the Port Macquarie ANZAC Day service on Sunday.
As the ANZAC Day march and service is different this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, we encourage families to hold their own service. Please take a photo and share with us if you do.
Here is a link to some suggested ways to hold your own family ANZAC day. ANZAC Day Home Service

BUS FLASHING LIGHT CAMPAIGN
The bus flashing light campaign runs from Sunday 18th April to Friday 30th April 2021. As we all return to school please remember to slow down to 40 Km/h when bus lights are flashing as it is indicating that the bus is picking up and dropping off students.

UPDATED - CATHOLIC SCHOOLS, DIOCESE OF LISMORE SOCIAL MEDIA COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
Please note the updated Catholic Schools Office, Lismore Diocese Social Media Guidelines.
These guidelines are in place to help create a safe environment on all social media channels run by Catholic Schools, Diocese of Lismore. The aim of our social media channels is to create an environment where our community can engage safely in conversation and is free to make comments, questions and suggestions. We ask that anyone engaging with our social media channels show courtesy, kindness and respect for all other members of our school and social media communities. In order to help create this safe environment we have set out some guidelines that apply to any engagement with us or other members of the community on any of our social media channels. By engaging with our social media channels, you agree to follow these guidelines. Comments must not:
- Contain spam, be defamatory of any person, deceive others, be obscene, offensive, threatening, abusive, hateful, inflammatory or promote sexually explicit material or violence.
- Breach the privacy of any student, staff member or family member of a student or staff member.
- Promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.
- Breach any of the terms of any of the social media platforms themselves.
- Be off-topic, irrelevant or unintelligible.
- Contain any advertising or promote any services that are not first approved by Catholic Schools, Diocese of Lismore or are unrelated to Catholic Schools, Diocese of Lismore.
Breach of guidelines
We reserve the right to determine, at our discretion, whether contributions to our social media channels breach our guidelines. We reserve the right to hide or delete comments made on our channels, as well as block users who do not follow these guidelines.

THANK YOU FROM ST AGNES’ CATHOLIC PARISH
On behalf of Fr Paul and St Agnes’ Catholic Parish, I would like to sincerely thank the school community for the incredibly generous donations to the Parish Pop Up Pantry.
The Parish is liaising with over 60 local families affected by the floods, as well as many others from the wider community who drop into the Pop-Up Pantry, to support their recovery.
Many who have lost some, or all, of their possessions, cars, homes, treasured mementoes are unable to return to work until the clean-up is complete and their homes are liveable again.
The assistance given ranges from providing shopping vouchers, shoes, hampers, groceries, cleaning supplies to school fees assistance, transport, and accommodation.
The Parish is also providing practical support to the affected residents of Riverside Village, Edgewater Caravan Park and Brigadoon Caravan Park.
The Pop-Up Pantry would not exist without the generous donations from our schools and parishioners.
This all happened in the last week of term, so it was amazing to see the tremendous support we were given.
Great work staff, students, and families.
THANK YOU
Anne O’Brien

Children are encouraged to attend.
Student Medical Appointments and Early Departure
We strongly encourage parents to organise medical appointments outside of school hours (Start 8.55am and Finish 3.10pm) but are conscious that this is not always possible. For your convenience if you have to make a medical appointment for your child during school time please be aware of our breaks for your planning as there will be a delay in getting your child to the office if they are out at lunch play:
Lunch 1 is at 11:00am-11:40am
Lunch 2 is at 1:40pm-2:10pm
Hometime messages
If there is a change to your child's hometime travel arrangements please let your child know before they leave the house or write a note to your child's teacher. Some parents also write a "H" (homelines) or a "B" (buslines) on their child's hand. We understand that plans may change during the day and ask that you phone the office Aunties on 6583 3848 between the hours of 8.30am and 2.30pm. This enables us to ensure that your child gets the message in a timely manner. Do NOT email the school or message your child's teacher directly as it may not be seen in the timeframe you require. If an emergency occurs or there is a late change to your child's home time plan we will do everything we can to get the message to your child after 2.30pm. Please be aware that a warning school bell sounds at 3:00pm for classes to prepare to leave the class for hometime at 3.10pm which makes it difficult to guarantee that a message will get to your child.

TERM 2 CANTEEN MENU
Birthday Buckets
What are they?
Birthday Buckets are a great way for your child to celebrate their birthday at school and share a treat with their classmates. Each bucket will contain a Quelch ice block for every student in the class (and may be even the teacher!)
Quelch ice blocks are 99% fruit juice which means they are great for children with allergies so everyone in the class can enjoy them.
How much do they cost?
Just $10.00 per bucket.
The bucket will be decorated for your child’s birthday and collected during the day as directed by the teacher to share with their class. The buckets are reusable and will need to be returned to the canteen.
How do you order them?
They can be ordered via Flexischools on the day you would like your child to share them or can be ordered in advance. Alternatively, if you don’t use Flexischools, you can call the school office to order directly from the Canteen.
LUNCH ORDERS
The canteen is operating as usual and lunch orders can be placed via Flexischools or by dropping them in the basket on the counter each morning.
Flexischools is our preferred method for submitting lunch orders.
Reminder - Cutoff time for online orders is 8.30am.
- Download the Flexischools app from the App Store or from Google Play.
Note: for iPhone and iPad please select ‘Allow’ notification - Click “Register Now” to create account
- Top-up your balance
- Start ordering immediately
- Alternatively Go to www.flexischools.com.au or you can find the link on the school website.
Don’t forget you can place your online orders days or even weeks in advance, making the morning rush even easier!

Magic Beach
We are excited that our students in Kindergarten to Year 2 will be attending the performance of ‘Magic Beach’ at the Glasshouse on Thursday 13th May.
Alison Lester’s classic book comes to life on stage in a wonderful world of text, song, light, shadow and movement. From the team behind The Gruffalo and The 13-, 26-, 52-, 78- and 91-Storey Treehouses, this new Australian adaptation from multi-award winning playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer is a celebration of the power of the imagination and the differences that make every child special.
Please see the note for the permission details.
